Launched in 2006, the University Rover Challenge is hosted by the Mars Society as a robotics competition to encourage university level students to design and build state-of-art next generation rovers. Held at the Mars Desert Research Station outside Hanksville, Utah, the competitions pits the rover in an environment with a geographical and chemical similarity to Mars.

The UCL Rover Team aims at designing, building, and testing a Mars Rover to compete at the University Rover Challenge held annually in Utah, USA. Founded in 2017, the UCL Rover Team consists of Mechanical Engineering students in all years.
