On Wednesday 12th November 2014 of November, a group of UCL MechEng student travelled to Birmingham for the Advanced Engineering UK Show.
The Advanced Engineering Show is the largest annual advanced engineering gathering in the UK. It took place in the biggest hall of the Birmingham International Exhibition Halls. Over 700 companies were exhibiting at the show! Advanced Engineering UK brings together five high growth advanced engineering and technology events to provide a hugely exciting integrated environment.
The show was organised in five sections: Aeronautics, Composites, Automotive, Auto Electronics and Performance in Metals. This made for an extensively integrated engineering show with all areas relevant to our Mechanical Engineering degree. There was many stalls to look through, talks, company presentations etc…
We were able to talk to engineers and companies, gaining insight into their design process but also in terms of their employment opportunities.
The Advanced Engineering Show was a great way to learn about the innovation and research currently undertaken in our field of study. It was a great way to learn new manufacturing techniques and discover new materials. This was an opportunity to learn about Engineering outside the lecture theatre.
All together, the day was a great success! We had a lot of fun playing with the machinery exhibited, scoring some free goodies and learning about what’s currently happening in those Engineering fields.
